MARGAO: Maharashtra’s Badole Shaunak and Telangana’s WCM Deekshitha Modipalli maintained their supremacy in the 38th National Under-13 Chess Championship, both leading their respective sections with 9 points after 10 rounds.

Shaunak (2086) defeated CM Vyom Malhotra of Haryana on the top board using the Nimzowitsch-Larsen Attack. Karnataka’s top seed Siddhanth Poonja (2215) beat Siddhant Salunke of Maharashtra, while Delhi’s Shaurya Chaudhary stunned CM Advik Agrawal in the Caro-Kann Defence. Among the Goans, Joshua Mark Telles (1793) impressed with a win over Kushagra Paliwal, while Maxwell Raposo also scored.

In the girls’ section, Deekshitha (1934) held top seed WCM Aamuktha Guntaka (2102) of Andhra to a draw, keeping her lead intact. West Bengal’s Maitreyi Mondal moved up to 8.5 points with victory over Sravyasree Bheemarasetty, while Maharashtra’s Mysha Perwez overcame WCM Pratitee Bordoloi of Karnataka.

Among the Goan girls, Asmi Amit Terse (1407) (6.5 points) held her ground and drew against the higher-rated Tripurambika V (1747) (6.5 points) of Andhra Pradesh. Diya Digamber Sawal (1586) (5.5) went down to Hridya Rakesh (1457) (6.5 points) of Kerala, while Skyla Rodrigues (1544) (6 points) produced a fine victory over Shukla Rajvi Mahesh (5 points) of Gujarat.
