PANJIM: The prestigious Bandodkar Gold Cup which was scrapped in 1994 will be revived from this year and the dates will be finalised according to the schedule of I-League and Indian Super League, Goa Football Association President Elvis Gomes announced at the press briefing after the annual general body meeting held in a city hotel, on Sunday.
Elvis informed that the decision to restart the Bandodkar Cup, which is surrounded with controversy, is for the development of football in the State.
The dates for the Cup will be announced later.
Speaking on the Bandodkar ground at Campal, Elvis mentioned that the stadium will be constructed on the parade ground and not at the original venue due to crowd capacity restrains.
“The tenders for the garbage removal at the parade ground will be floated soon,” he added.
The GFA also finalised perks for the referees at the inter-village tournaments. The referees should be paid an amount of Rs 400 per match along with travelling allowance of Rs 50 or Rs 100. This issue was raised at the meet after the inter-village tournaments had to face criticism over remuneration paid to the referees.
Although the decision to choose referees is with the tournament organisers, they are bound to choose atleast one GFA recognised referee out of the five listed probables, the meet decided.
“In order to get financial assistance for the clubs, the GFA has decided to recognise 7-a-side tournaments in the State. The GFA will also organise a special 7-a-side tournament for the development of football,” Elvis stated.
“The area of the ground and timings would be reduced to make the game more interesting. Also the limitations for changing players have been waived off,” he added.
