Maina Sports Club clinch 26th Super Soccer Cup

PANJIM: Maina Sports Club defeated Sporting Club Davorlim 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final to clinch the 26th Super Soccer Cup, football tournament organized by United Boys of Dando, Colva at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim on Sunday.

At the end of the regulation time, the teams remained goalless draw.
In the first half, Maina Sports Club and Sporting Club Davorlim dominated the proceedings with their strikers trying hard to score goals. But their targets were not up to the mark and most of the attempts were foiled by the defence lines.
Davorlim in the 13th minute came close to scoring but Clifton Rebello’s header missed the nylon off an assist by Andrew Colaco. 
Thereafter, Maina made move in the 26th minute. Joaquim Carvalho’s flag kick curled and hit the crosspiece and the ball rebound back into play. 
Post resumption, both the teams dominated but their strikers spoiled easy chances.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Maina Sports Club had the last laugh by scoring 5-4 victory.
Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Benaulim Zilla Parishad member Maria Rebello, Mumbai FC player
Brandon Fernandes, GFA and the club officials.
The winners were richer by Rs 40,000 plus trophy while runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000 plus trophy.
Other prizes awarded are: Player of the Tournament Aldrich Coelho (Navelim), Best discipline team Cuncolim Union, Best goalkeeper Joaquim Figuerido, Best defender of the final Placindinho Fernandes, Best half of final Paxton Gomes (SC Davorlim), Man-of-the-Match Gemson Noronha (Maina SC), Best forward Marcus Fernandes (Maina SC).
Earlier, Jinny Vaz introduced the guests to the teams while Sanford compered. Later, Valent Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks.
