CUNCOLIM: Dempo Sports Club defeated Guardian Angel Sports Club 2-1 in the GFA Pro-League match played here, on Wednesday.
In the first half, Dempo SC were leading 1-0.
The match started on a promising note with Dempo SC and Guardian Angel SC attacking each other’s citadel. Dempo SC made their first move at the rival goal through Kapil Hoble, the Under-20 player, but was tackled by Ali Kone of Guardian Angel SC.
Guardian Angel SC too had their chance with Ashley Araujo setting up the ball to Meclon Colaco but the latter squandered the opportunity by shooting wide.
As the match progressed, in the 9th minute, Nickson Castana of Dempo SC saw Stevan Fernandes lurking in the Guardian Angel SC penalty area and set up a pass to him in return Stevan collected the ball from the former and fired into the Guardian Angel SC nets.
In the 12th minute, Guardian Angel SC in search of an equaliser made a move through Ali, who supplied the ball to Djourou Isaac. But his try was tackled by defender Chikawali of Dempo SC.
In an effort to double the lead, Kapil Hoble of Dempo SC floated the ball in the rival goal but Guardian Angel SC goalkeeper Jovial Coutinho fisted away for safety in the 35th minute.
In the 36th minute, Stephen Colaco of Guardian Angel SC lost a golden opportunity to score when his left footer missed nearly two feet away from the goalpost of Dempo SC after being fed by Djourou.
The second half saw Guardian Angel SC playing with caution.
Maurico Afonso coach of Dempo SC brought in Gurmanpreet Singh and Sahil Tavora as substitutes adding more colours to the team.
Substitute Estavan Mendes of Guardian Angel SC floated a ball to Djourou who made no mistake to equalise in the 76th minute by neatly placing the ball into the Dempo SC nets.
Immediately, Dempo SC got the match winner in the 78th minute through Beevan.
Later, Beevan was booked by referee in the 86th minute with red card for unsporting behaviour and was given marching orders. Dempo SC were reduced to 10-man army, but fought the battle till the end to maintain their lead.
