Benaulim Veterans blanked Raia Veterans 2-0 to cruise into the finals of Flame of Unity veterans football tournament organised by Flame of Unity Club, Per Seraulim at Mabai ground, Per-Seraulim on Saturday. The winners led 1-0 at half time.
Benaulim Veterans started on a fast pace and held sway over the proceedings with Mario Soares spraying accurate passes to keep his forwards busy.
Cruz Rebello put Benaulim Veterans into the lead in the opening session when he headed in off a cross from Antush Ferrao.
In the second session, Raia Veterans put up a better display but could not stop Benaulim Veterans from scoring more goals.
Midway in the second session midfielder Alfred Fernandes dribbled past a couple of rival defenders and unleashed a snap shot which beat the Raia goalkeeper hands down.
Raia Veterans, stung by the setback, tried their level best to reduce the margin but Jack Rodrigues ,Willy Moraes and Manuel Antonio lent solidity to the defence giving no chance to the rival attackers.
Santan Furtado of Raia Veterans was adjudged man-of-the match. He received the prize from the chief guest, Shanke, panch of Seraulim.
