MARGAO: Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal lived up to the excepting to win the State under-14 boys Subroto Mukerjee inter-school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs after slaying Don Bosco High School, Panjim 2-0 in the final, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Thursday.
Bethany Convent High School led 1-0 at the breather.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowd on their toes with Don Bosco High School dominating the midfield. Their captain Amman, who had good outing, came close to score twice but Bethany Convent High School goalkeeper Tennyson Fernandes was equal to the task.
After a brief drama, striker Senisho Olveira unleashed a left footer which crashed into the net keeping the rival goalkeeper dazed.
Crossing over, Bethany Convent were much more composed and they started in a flurry with inform striker Melisio Camotim after receiving a quick through pass from Mark Carvalho got past the bewildered rival defence to put the issue beyond doubt.
With the victory, Bethany Convent earned a ticket to New Delhi to play in the All India Subroto Mukerjee inter-school football tournament.

Mario Moraes, physical education teacher presented Rs 500 each player of the triumphant team.
He was elated with the victory and said though the boys played well today, there were moments of uncertainty, but they quickly regrouped and settled well.
