MAPUSA: Bidesh XI registered a hard-fought 6-5 win via tie-breaker over Calangute Association Sports Club to clinch the Candolim Panchayat Cup organised by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim.
In a largely attended final, Calangute Association started with a positive intent scoring their first goal in the 10th minute of play through Nigel Silveira who placed the ball neatly to the left of Bidesh XI goalkeeper, 1-0.
Calangute Association scored their second goal of a self goal by Tushar Desai, 2-0.
On crossing ends, Bidesh XI came with renewed ideas and pumped in two goals through Tushar Desai to make it 2-2.
With the match ending in a 2-2 draw the penalty shoot-out was enforced where in Bidesh XI’s Madhu Salgaonkar, Projyot Naik, Tushar Desai and Gautesh Bugde scored, while for Calangute Association Joshua, Ashwyn D’Souza and Pedro Gonsalves were successful.
Bidesh XI took home winners’ trophy and cash prize of Rs 80,000, while Calangute Association had to be content with runners up trophy and Rs 60,000.
Earlier, chief guest Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, guest of honour Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes, special invites all panch members of Candolim Village Panchayat, distinguished guest Kerala Blaster Head Coach David Catala, Kerala Blaster mid-fielder Adrian Nicholas Luna, winger Noah Jacob Sadoui were introduced to the players and match officials by Candolim SC President Lawry Fernandes.
Later, Bruno De Souza proposed a vote of thanks and also compered the final function.
