MAPUSA: CAC Cansaulim registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Saligao United to advance into the quarters of the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup, organised by Vagator PYSC, at Ozran ground, on Tuesday.
CAC Cansaulim’s Melwin Gama put a through pass to Kenneth D’Costa but the latter’s strike sailed over the rival’s crossbar.
At the other end, Saligao United’s Dravin Mandrekar saw his strike travel straight into the hands of Cansaulim keeper Jude Fernandez.
Saligao had two more chances to take the lead when Govind Mahale latched onto a through ball from Paulo Joao but missed the post by a whisker.
Minutes later this time Saligao’s Jayesh Chopdekar missed the target from close range.
In the 30th minute, Cansaulim’s Arron Fernandez drilled a shot at the goal which hit the post off a floater from Melwin Gama.
On crossing over, CAC Cansaulim’s Kenneth Dcosta combined well with Melwin Gama but failed to score from close.
However, in the 50th minute, CAC Cansaulim’s Satan Vaz unselfishly passed the ball to Agnelo D’Souza who beat the advancing keeper with a neat placement.
