BENAULIM: Arlem Youth Association, Raia got the better of Mandopa Sporting Club 2-1 to move into the semi-finals of the The 7th Sebastian Union Club football tournament organised by St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim, at Sao Joao Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
Arlem coach Seby Gaoncar gave extra task to Joustan Barbosa to take control of the midfield and forward lines where as Mandopa coach Robin Rodrigues gave extra task to Aulon Gomes to control midfield and forward line and even to defend at regular intervals.
In the second minute, Mandopa’s Clinton Niasso took control of the ball from Danston Fernandes and dribbled past Arlem defender Sockey Cardozo and shot from the left flank but the latter’s shot was palmed away to safety by Arlem keeper Lio Colaco.
Eldon Colaco had the best scoring chance in the sixth minute after dribbling past Mandopa’s Joseph Gomes and Nevin Pereira. However, as he was about to pull the trigger, Arlem’s Jude Cardozo snatched the ball and cleared the danger from the box.
It was Klins Mendes who netted the first goal of the match for Arlem in the 42nd minute. In the 56th minute, substitute Joysthon Cardozo doubled the account for Raia, after which a relaxed attitude in the 68th minute cost Arlem as Rovan Pereira pulled a goal back for Mandopa.
Arlem Youth Association, Raia will now meet the winners of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna and Maina SC, Curtorim in the semi-finals on August 3.
