RAIA: In an exciting clash at Dando ground, Benaulim, Calangute Veterans edged out Verna Veterans 2-1 to move into the next round of UK Goans Dynamic Group, on Tuesday.
Calangute showcased their attacking prowess, with Robert Fernandes and Seby Vaz combining brilliantly. Their efforts paid off dividend in the 18th minute when Seby fired Calangute into the lead.
Post resumption, Verna responded aggressively, pressing hard for the equaliser, but Seby in goal for Calangute was a formidable presence, denying their advances with some crucial saves. Calangute extended their lead in the 30th minute, with Robert finding the back of the net, making it, 2-0. However, Verna refused to give up, and in the 38th minute, Caitan pulled one back, reducing the deficit to 1-2. Despite Verna’s relentless push in the second half, Calangute held firm to secure the victory, with their solid defence and excellent goalkeeping.
