RAIA: Chandan Caro, student of Bhatikar Model High School, Margao, and seeded 14th All India in U-13 category won the gold medal in the Ultimate National Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, held at Thiruvananthapuram-Kerala, recently.
In the all India ranking tournament, around 1,200 players from across States participated in all the categories. Chandan won two matches. First to qualify in the main draw uniforms in U-13 cadet boys. In the main draw, 1st match-round of 64, he defeated Tamil Nadu 3-0. In a round of 32 he defeated Telangana 3-0. In the round of 16, Chandan defeated India’s No. 1 seed and thre- time champion Tulsani Prateek of Maharashtra 3-1.
In the quarter-final, Chandan defeated No. 5 seed Bhiwandikar Param of Maharashtra 3-1. In the semi-final, he defeated Chattopadhya Rishaan, No 3 seed of Bengal 3-2. In the final, Chandan outplayed India’s No. 4 seed 3-1 to clinch the gold medal.
Chandan Caro will be now ranked 5th in All India U-13 cadet boys and aims to become No. 1 in India and get more and more medals for Goa.
“Chandan started playing table tennis at the age of 7. When he saw his sister playing table tennis, he developed an interest in the game. We used to see him hit table tennis balls on the wall for hours and smelled his love for the game,” informed Chandan’s parents, Amit and Poonam.
Headmistress Manisha Dhume added, “Chandan’s parents Amit Caro and Poonam Caro completed their schooling at Bhatikar Model School and seeing Chandan climb the ladder of success gives us immense pleasure. Chandan is well-balanced with his academic progress along with sports. We as teachers have encouraged him to pursue his training and win laurels to our school and the State. We are proud of his achievements and are sure that he will soon be No.1 at national level. We wish him all the success in the field of Sports.”
