DAVORLIM: Chandor Sports Club defeated Navelim SC 3-2 to enter the final of the 12th Davorlim Cup football tournament, organized by SC Davorlim, at Davorlim Panchayat ground, on Wednesday. They led 2-1 at half time.
Chandor SC surged ahead in the seventh minute through Succor Fernandes, whose left-footer crushed into the nets of Navelim SC off an assist by Standly.
Anil Shivolkar of Navelim SC saw his effort hit the goalpost while Alvito Colaco squandered two chances.
At the other end, young Moises D’Sa made it 2-0 in favour of Chandor SC in the 12th minute.
They could have inflated their tally in the 22nd minute but Aldrich Coelho shot wide.
A defensive lapse in the dying minute of first half cost Chandor SC as Navelim SC pulled a goal back through Sandy Colaco’s header of a cross by Clinton Niasso.
Crossing over, the teams provided end-to-end action as Aldrich Coelho set up
Aulon Gomes but the latter was timely tackled by defender Rosario Fernandes.
Subsequently, Sunny Fernandes’ header flew high in the 43rd minute but the striker made it 3-1 two minutes later after being fed by Benson Fernandes.
Navelim SC further charged to make it 3-1 through Sandy Colaco, who headed in off a Rovan Pereira cross.
In the final two minutes, Sunny’s effort kissed the goalpost of Navelim SC and the ball went out of play.
This is Chandor SC’s second entry in the final in 2016. They will take on Parish Youth Nuvem in the final to be held on April 3.
