MAPUSA: Chapora Yuvak Sangh put up a stiff challenge before squeezing past Sangolda Lightning by 3-2 margin in the GFA’s 3rd Division league-play-off played at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
At half-time, Chapora led 2-0.
The first goal of the match was scored in the fifth minute when Pundalik Naik leapt high to nod in Marvoti Harijan’s cross to give Chapora the lead.
In the 23rd minute, Chapora doubled their lead when Aksham Shirodkar’s powerful long range free-kick dipped into the Sangolda net to make it 2-0.
Sangolda had a chance to reduce the margin however Suhas faltered from close range.
Changing ends, Uday Naik made it 2-1 for Sangolda when he guided in Myron’s pass.
Their joy was however short-lived as Chapora once again found the back of the net when Nehal Parsekar hoodwinked the Sangolda keeper and slotted the ball home to make it 3-1.
Sangolda once again managed to reduce the margin through Suhas who scored through a placement to make it 3-2.
Chapora’s Akshay Shirodkar was named man-of-the-match.
