MAPUSA: Chapora Yuvak Sangh registered a well deserved 4-1 win over neighbors Vagator PYSC to win the GFA’s Second Division North District title at Duler stadium, here on Tuesday.
Unbeaten Chapora YS started in right earnest and went into the breather with a 3-1 lead.
Right from the kick-off, Shario Gomes sped down and finished with a clean placement a combined move involving Albino Pereira and Sachidanand Satelkar.
Vagator hit back and levelled the score in the 3rd minute following a reverse kick by Reeve D’Costa.
Chapora, after earning two corners in their period of domination, scored two quick goals in the 23rd and 24th minutes. Stopper back Pratik Naik tapped the ball in and later, Aniket Naik drilled a
scorching 25-yard strike which left Vagator’s custodian Pranav Kotarkar rooted to the ground.
Vagator never looked back as they tried to score and Mohammad Khan was a bit late to connect Godwin Fernandes’ low cross right in front of the goal.
As the match progressed, Chapora’s custodian and skipper Soma Korgaonkar brought off two excellent saves to thwart Reeve D’Costa and Regan Costa from scoring.
At the other end, Shario Gomes’ and Sachidanand Satelkar’s strikes were saved by Vagator’s goalkeeper Pranav.
Finally in the 86th minute, Chapora hammered the final nail into Vagator’s coffin. Sankalp Kankonkar collected a pass from Sachidanand and superbly curled his shot in from outside the penalty box.
