PANJIM: Chichinim shocked Candolim via a sudden death 7-6 to book the final berth in the All-Goa Panjim Veterans soccer tournament played Santa Cruz ground, on Monday.
Candolim were leading 1-0 at the half time.
Inachy D’Souza put Candolim into lead in the very 10th minute of the play after a brilliant pass by Fr Peter Mascarenhas.
Crossing over, in the dying minutes of the play, Candolim defender handled the ball inside the box and referee Francis D’Souza (former international) rewarded a penalty which was converted by Alfred Fernandes of Chichinim.
At the end of regulation timem both were held at 1-1 draw. In the resultant tie-breaker which was extended to sudden death, Mahesh Lotlikar, Marcus Carvalho, Alfred Fernandes, Yuri Ferrao, Marceline Pinto and Inacio Cardozo scored for Chinchinim Veterans while Caitan Xavier, Brian Diniz, Shankar Palyankar, Inachy D’Souza, Hillary Soares netted for Candolim Veterans. Chinchinim will meet Merces in the final on May 27.
Lorento D’Silva was the chief guest and gave away the Player-of-the-Match award to Brian Diniz of Candolim.
