MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem were pulled into the penalty shootout to get the better of Parish Youth Sports Club Vagator 4-2 to clinch the Nerul Soccer Cup organized by Nerul Sports Club at Nerul ground, on Sunday.
The final was witnessed by a large Sunday crowd, which returned home disappointed as no goals were scored in the 70 minutes of duel.
Finally the results was declared via tie-breaker, where Dunes SC scored through Shashank Ashvekar, Niraj Kinlekar, Anant Gad and Vivek Naik, while for PYSC Vagator only Tanay Naik and Dinesh Moraskar scored on target.
Dunes SC were awarded the winners cash prize of Rs 50,000 plus trophy while PYSC Vagator had to be content with Rs 30,000 plus trophy.
Individual prizes were awarded to: Best forward Shashank Ashvekar (Dunes SC),
best half Vinayak Mulgaonkar, best defender Jasmon Carvalho (both PYSC Vagator), Best goalkeeper Aniket Gadekar, winning goal of the final Vivek Naik (both Dunes SC).
Earlier, the Nerul Sports Club officials introduced the chief guest Minister for Tourism and Child Development Dilip Parulekar, guest of honour Suraj Morajkar, special invitees Rupesh Naik (ZP Reis-Magos), Santosh Bandodkar, GFA executive member, Shashikala J. Govekar, deputy sarpanch and other panchayat members to the players and match officials.
