PANJIM: Chinchinim breezed past strong contenders Amanda Sporting, Panjim 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of 2nd all-Goa Quepem Veterans Rolling Cup football tournament, organized by Navyug Vikas Manch, Quepem, at Borimoll Sports Complex ground, Quepem, Saturday.
At the break, the score was 2-0 in Chinchinim favour.
Chinchinim caught the rival off guard and scored the first goal in the 10th minute of a counter attack. Mathew, who was well fed by Agostinho, scored from 20 yards with his powerful curling shot which gave no chance to Amanda keeper Cajetan Fernandes to make a save.
Just before the half time, Chinchinim scored the second goal to make things worse for the Amanda when Jerry Fernandes headed home a corner taken by Mahesh Lotlikar to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Amanda reduced the margin when Rosario headed home off a free kick just outside the penalty area taken by Frankie at the fag end of the match and it was too late for Amanda to get the second goal.
Chinchinim will meet the winners of Tuff Veterans, Parra and Ponda Veterans in the semi-finals on October 22.
In another quarter-finals, Teddy Gomes’ strike helped Nuvem score a solitary win against Panjim to enter the semi-finals.
The match was dominated by Panjim, but the strikers Paulo Almeida, Charles Lobo and Nagesh Shirodkar ran out of ideas once they reached in the danger zone, which helped Nuvem to prevail with a slender lead.
