BETALBATIM: Rossman Cruz, Verna defeated St Anthony SC, Colva 1-0 to move into the quarter-finals of Late Joao Francisco Pacheco memorial football tournament organized by Betalbatim Sports Club, at the Betalbatim sports complex, on Monday.
Christo D’Mello scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute when Savio Fernandes gave a beautiful ground pass to Christo, who placed the ball in the far corner of St Anthony SC net.
Both the teams began on a promising note creating good moves in the opponent’s box.
The Verna team began their attacking moves through Savio Fernandes and Noel D’Silva while Snadden Rodrigues, Ronnie Hilario and Dillon Fernandes combined well for the Colva team.
Down by an early goal, St Anthony SC changed their tactics to find the equaliser and almost nailed it in the 27th minute when Joseph Fernandes gave a well managed pass to Snadden, whose shot missed by inches over the rival cross bar and ball went out of play.
Post resumption, Rossman Cruz had the chance to double the lead in the 60th minute, however, Savio’s effort was easily collected by the rival keeper Jerry Fernandes.
