It’s final. The 3rd Lusofonia Games will be held in Goa in November 2013. This was a solemn assurance given by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in the presence of Sports Minister Babu Azgaoncar when the ACOLOP delegation headed by (Alex) Vong Iao Lex and alongwith GOA president Subash Shirodkar and SAG Executive Director V M Prabhudesai paid a courtesy call at the CM’s residence, Altinho, here on Monday.
“I am extremely happy that the Games have been allotted to Goa and they will take place in November 2013. As of now, the total infrastructure and facilities needed to host the Games may not be place. But, gradually we will build it up and there will be no problems whatsoever in hosting the first-ever multi-discipline international event in the State,” remarked the Chief Minister.
“There are more than two years to go. We shall take up on priority basis the facilities and infrastructure needed for Lusofonia Games, which will also be ultimately used for 2014 National Games,” Digambar explained.
Digambar asked Sports Minister, Babu Azgaocar to personally monitor the progress so that the deadlines are met and everything is spot on schedule.
“Our main effort will be to get the infrastructure ready well ahead of time. These prestigious Games will take place in Goa in 2013 surely, with the help of Goa Government, GOA, SAG, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Associations, clubs, players and for that matter with the cooperation and collaboration of Goans,” thundered Sports Minister Babu.
“We need to provide priority to the venues needed for Lusofonia Games and we are fully geared up in that direction. The Games do not cover many disciplines, just eight or nine. So, it will not be difficult for Goa to get ready and dressed up for hosting the big, international event, added Babu.
