MARGAO: Cortalim Villagers Union defeated Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim 3-2 in the inaugural match of Sancho memorial football tournament, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday. In the first half, Cortalim Villagers Union led 2-1.
Cortalim Villagers Union started with an attacking intent but Schubert Pereira’s header missed the target in the third minute.
At the other end, Wilred Leisure SC stunned their opponents as they took the lead in the 20th minute through Agnelo Martins fierce shot off a supply by Steven Fernandes.
However, Cortalim Villagers Union regrouped and equalized five minutes later as Schubert Pereira gave finishing touches to a Clinton Fernandes supply.
Cortalim Villagers Union continued in the same rhythm and took the lead through Clinton’s grounder before the lemon break.
Crossing over, Cortalim Villagers Union scored their third goal through Samuel D’Silva in the 46th minute but Steven reduced the deficit in the 48th minute.
However, Wilred Leisure SC failed to level the scoring after trying hard in the final quarter.
