PANJIM: CRC Chinchinim got the better of St Rock’s Sports Club, Majorda 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the inaugural match of All-Goa Matanhy Saldanha memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Velsao Pale Villagers Association at Dr T B da Cunha sports ground, Cansaulim. The teams were locked goalless at normal time.
Chinchinim settled quickly with Jolex Fernandes and Jorex Fernandes marshaling the midfield. Majorda’s first threat came in the 10th minute after Deslon Antao’s effort sailed inches over the crossbar.
After resumption, the teams tried hard to score but their forwards failed to convert.
In the tie-breaker, Jorex Fernandes, Domnic Rebello, Benson Fernandes, Ryan Fernandes and David Rebello converted for Chinchinim while Boaventure Pacheco, Deslon Antao, Ahmed Sadik and Steve Fernandes converted for Majorda.
Earlier, Alina Saldanha MLA kicked off the tournament in the presence of Fatima Pereira, sarpanch, Velsao Pale panchayat; Darryl D’ Souza, assistant commissioner of Police, Mumbai; Valente Conceicao, GFA member and Elston Fernandes, principal, Goa Correspondence College.
