MARGAO: St Anthony SC, Assolda scored a solitary goal victory over Sporting Club Davorlim to move into the quarter-finals of 16th Fr Basilio Andrade memorial football tournament organized by Associacao Academica de Majorda-Utorda-Calata, at Musson ground, Majorda, on Thursday.
In the first half, the teams failed to open an account. They tried to score goals but failed to convert the chances which came their way.
In the seventh minute, St Anthony SC could have surged ahead but Welson Fernandes’ move was foiled by the defender of SC Davorlim.
SC Davorlim in the 29th minute also made an attempt when Agnelo Colaco received a ball from Vincent Colaco but the former’s shot lacked power and was easily saved by St Anthony SC goalkeeper.
Crossing over, St Anthony SC dominated the proceedings and scored the all-important goal through Cruz Gomes’ rasping shot which crushed into the nets of SC Davorlim in the 48th minute off a connect by Welson.
