PANJIM: Down by a goal in the first half, Damodar English High School, Gudi fought brilliantly to beat St Rita’s HS, Maina-Curtorim 3-1 to emerge South District champs in the boys U-17 hockey championship, organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, recently.
St Rita’s HS played well in the first session of the match and took the lead.
The second session of the match was fully dominated by Damodar lads. Vithoba Borkar equalised at the start of the second session of the match. Three minutes later, Ishwar Gaonkar scored the second goal while Akshay Gaonkar made issue beyond doubt scoring the third goal for Damodar.
Damodar English HS will now meet North Goa winners for the state final.
