Dempo CC in driver’s seat against Chowgule

PANJIM: Dempo Cricket Club were in the driver’s seat against Chowgule Sports Club, while Panjim Gymkhana trailed Geno Sports Club by 129 runs at the end of second day’s play in Goa Cricket Association’s Goa Premier League matches. 

At GCA Academy ground, Porvorim, Dempo  opted to bat and scored 239 runs in the first innings. Captain, Lakshay Garg remained unbeaten on 90 runs (70 balls; 12×4, 2×6). Chowgule SC off-spinner Mohit Redkar was the wrecker-in-chief as he grabbed 7/103 in 25 overs. In reply, Chowgule were bowled out for 188 runs in 67.5 overs. Kashyap Bakhle scored a fine century and his 108 runs off 192 balls, consisted of 12 boundaries and one sixer. Dempo’s bowling effort was led by Vikas Singh, who took 5/67 while Deep Kasvankar picked 3/51.

Having already secured a 51-run crucial first-innings lead, Dempo came out attacking in their second essay. By the end of the day, Dempo were 204/7 in 45 overs with Lakshay on 39 not out and Saiesh Kamat unbeaten on 29. Earlier, Karan Vasshodia contributed 57 runs at the top of the order, hitting seven boundaries in his 78-ball knock. For Chowgule, it was once again Goa Ranji Trophy offie Mohit Redkar, who bagged 5/87.

In the other match at Sanguem ground, a fine unbeaten century by captain Snehal Kauthankar (110 off 153balls, 15×4) and his unfinished sixth-wicket partnership of 141 runs with Shubham Desai (50 not out), kept Panjim Gymkhana afloat after the team was precariously poised at 72/5 in 22 overs in reply to defending champions Geno Sports Club’s total of 342 runs on being put into bat.
