MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club outplayed Sporting Clube de Goa 4-0 in a GFA’s U-18 First Division football league match at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, Thursday. Dempo led 1-0 at half time.
Dempo were a team on a mission. Valerio Palha gave them the lead in the 14th minute while Quan Gomes doubled the advantage soon after resumption. Paras Deulkar made it 3-0 with a close ranger and substitute Megan Silveira finished clinically in the 75th minute.
Dempo were all over the rival territory in the initial stages. Paras could have given them the lead in the very first minute but the striker shot straight into Sporting Clube keeper Sherwin Da Cunha.
Subsequently, Quan moved swiftly in the midfield and set Jaison Vaz through on goal but the latter couldn’t covert with only the rival custodian at his mercy. However, the visitors surged ahead in the 14th minute as defender Valerio nodded in from close-range off a perfect free-kick taken by Quan on the left flank.
At the other end, The Flaming Oranje struggled to feel home. Jonathan Cardoz’s out of the box long ranger was their only effort on goal, coming at the half hour mark. Changing ends, Dempo struck their second, in the 42nd minute. Keeper Sherwin was the guilty party as he failed to avert Quan’s dangerous flag-kick which entered the goal from a narrow angle.
Minutes later, Sporting Clube were out of steam as their rivals went 3-0 up. A dangerous cross from the right flank by Harshad Naik kissed the horizontal bar and luckily fell to onrushing Para, who bulged the nylons from hand-shaking distance. In the 75th minute, Paras turned goal provider as he intelligently set up Megan, who finished with a deft placement.
Sesa Football Academy and Dunes Sports Club played a 1-1 draw at Sesa FA ground, Sirsaim, yesterday. However, the GFA wrongly released the fixture in Wednesday’s today’s sports.
