MAPUSA: Dempo SC registered a well deserved 1-0 win over Panjim Footballers in the GFA’s Goa Professional League at Duler stadium, here, on Sunday.
The all important goal came from the boots of Laximanrao Rane. It was the second win for Dempo while second defeat for Panjim Footballers.
Dempo coach Remus Gomes brought just one change, goalkeeper Myric Hilario, in place of Antonio Da Silva in his Starting XI that defeated Cortalim Villagers, while Panjim Footballers coach Francisco Vaz also fielded almost the same squad which lost to Calangute Association by starting with Nigel Fernandes and Mackenzie Figureido.
It was total domination by Golden Eagles where they broke the deadlock in the 16th minute of play. Laximanrao Rane was left unmarked right inside the 6-yard box who tapped the ball into the goal off Arnold Oliveira’s low cross 1-0.
Arnold Oliveira was once again the provider for Pratik Naik, but the later was late to connect the ball in front of the goal.
As the match progressed, Vieri Colaco and Jonas Colaco goal bound strikes missed the target by whisker.
Just three minutes into the second session and Dempo should have doubled their lead but strong header by Pratik Naik off Laximanrao Rane free-kick rattled off the horizontal bar.
Capital side had two glorious chances to level terms in the closing stages of the match, but substitute unmarked Meislein Barreto blasted the ball wide from handshaking distance, while minutes later Richie Vaz strike from Teron Fernandes pass was blocked by Dempo’s defender for a corner.
Dempo’s Laximanrao Rane received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Anthony Vaz, GFA’s executive committee member.
