PANJIM: Dempo SC started their campaign in the AIFF U-13 Youth League on a winning note when they scored a hard fought 2-1 victory over Sporting Clube de Goa, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, on Saturday.
Dempo SC looked a better side technically as they had more ball possession and moved the ball smoothly.
Dempo SC almost scored their first in the 6th minute, however, Rohit Shirodkar’s attempt was cleared off the line by the Sporting Clube de Goa defender.
Few minutes later Dempo SC Dwayne Neto’s header was saved by the Sporting Clube de Goa’s keeper.
In the 16th minute Dwayne Neto had another chance to score but his shot was brilliantly saved by the rival keeper.
The second half saw Sporting Clube de Goa attacking on counter attacks but the Dempo SC defence stood tall to cut short all their efforts. Dempo SC came close to scoring when both Shreyash Naik’s and Dwayne Neto’s shot wide from close distance.
In the 47th minute, Dempo SC were rewarded a penalty when Sporting Clube de Goa defender handled the ball. Dwayne Neto took responsibility to take the spot kick and made no mistake to convert it into the goal. Dempo SC’s lead didn’t last for long as lack of communication from the defence saw Sporting Clube de Goa score the equalizing goal.
In order to take the lead again Dempo SC went all out and pumped all the balls in the Sporting’s territory.
Just minutes for the final whistle Dempo SC’s Dwayne Neto scored when his powerful shot had no answers for the keeper.
