Dempo SC go down fighting

MARGAO: Dempo Sports Club went down fighting against AIFF Academy 2-0 in the Goa Zonal Under-18 I-League match at Nagoa ground, Verna, on Thursday. AIFF Academy scored through Jerry Lalrinzuala and Baorindao Bodo.

MARGAO: Dempo Sports Club went down fighting against AIFF Academy 2-0 in the Goa Zonal Under-18 I-League match at Nagoa ground, Verna, on Thursday. AIFF Academy scored through Jerry Lalrinzuala and Baorindao Bodo. 
Dempo SC started the match on the front foot and missed the golden opportunity to take the lead in the 12th minute of play from the spot kick.
Kapil Hoble was brought down in the box by the AIFF Academy defender when the Blues’ striker was one-on-one at the goal but Vineet Bugde’s spot kick was well saved by the rival goalkeeper.
The AIFF Academy soon took the lead in the 17th minute through Jerry when the winger dribbled past couple of Dempo defenders before unleashing a shot giving no room for Dempo keeper Ozen Silva.
Dempo SC striker Aaron Silva was given no room by the AIFF stopper Jayanada, thus paralyzing the Dempo SC attack.
Valerio Palha and EdwinViegas had busy evening in the defence for The Golden Eagles while Kapil Hoble missed a golden opportunity to equalize as the former’s close range shot missed the target by whiskers.
The AIFF Academy doubled the lead just before the half time.
Karluki laid an inch perfect pass to Bodo for a simple tap-in at the goalmouth before the former dribbled past couple of Blues defenders to make it 2-0.
Coach Anthony D’Souza introduced Rinjoy Fernandes and Malcolm Gonsalves in place of Aaron Rodrigues and Aaren D’Silva on resumption of play.
Dempo SC put up a strong second half performance with Kapil and Vineet testing the goalkeeper from distance but failed to penetrate the stubborn AIFF defence.
