CHANDOR: Dicarpale Sports Club scored a thumping 4-0 win over Cuncolim Union in the 15th Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club, at Chandor church ground, on Saturday.
The inaugural match of the tournament lived up to the crowd’s expectations as both the teams attacked from the word go.
It was Cuncolim Union who had the first attempt at the goal but their striker missed an open sitter from touching distance.
However, Dicarpale SC found the rhythm and soon took control of the game and took the lead in the 24th minute through Mable Miranda who headed in a well measured off Paxtom Gomes’ cross from the left flank.
Cuncolim Union found themselves on the back foot and so conceded the second goal when the defender clashed with his own keeper and Mack Borges capitalised on the break to score the team’s second goal in the 33rd minute.
Changing over, Cuncolim Union came up with new ideas but they suffered a blow when Dicarpale SC scored their third from a counter attack which Robinson Colaco, on dribbling past couple of rival defenders, rounded off the keeper before pushing the ball at the back of the net.
Dicarpale scored their fourth in the dying minutes of the game through Rayan Furtado who ran down from centre dribbling past entire Cuncolim midfield and defence before scoring the fourth.
Earlier, chief guest Sudesh Bhise, Social Worker Cuncolim Constituency declared the tournament open while former Guirdolim Club player Peter D’Costa kicked off the tournament open in the presence of Guirdolim VP Sarpanch Malisha Carvalho, other panch member, Prakash Dessai GFA Ex Co Member, Patwin Fizardo Club President, Jose Antao Club Secretary and other dignitaries.
