The Federation Group B fixtures are set to kick off in Goa on Tuesday, but there is still concern about the venue. Matches are scheduled to be played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa but due to the heavy rains it has been impossible for the hardworking ground staff to prepare the playfield.
Already five Professional League matches were postponed and one match was shifted to a different venue.
Out of the three Goan clubs participating in the qualifiers, Sporting Clube de Goa has been hit the hardest as they have not been able to play a single match this season.
Vasco Sports Club have played two matches, having also the privilege of having a run out in the Charity match opener. Sesa Football Academy had two outings.
“It is an unfortunate situation to be in, going for the Federation Cup qualifiers without any competitive matches under our belt,” stated coach Alex Alvares.
Regardless of the situation, Alex believes his players are mentally prepared for the encounter. “We have been in pre-season training for a long time and I have a young squad mixed with experienced players who just want to get out there and play,” remarked Alex.
With Tuesday just around the corner, the Bardez football fans will be hoping that the venue is ready so that they can cheer on their favourite clubs.
Just last season the GFA organised a U-19 I-league cluster and as such the locals are craving for more high quality football.
Vasco Sports Club take on Sesa on September 14 and Sporting Clube play Malabar United on September 15. The winners are due to meet on September 17.
