The scouting festival is a yearly feature to identify the best talent from across the country. In all, 120 young players participated in the festival. This year the festival had participation of 80 players from FC Goa grassroots camp while the other 40 had a mix of players from Dempo SC, Salgaocar C and GFDC. The scouting festival was overlooked by Piet Hubers, Technical Director, ISL Grassroots Development Programme.
Katz Naidoo, Technical Director of FC Goa’s grassroots said “This is a great opportunity for FC Goa grassroots players to participate in this camp and showcase their talent and carry the Goan flag to another level.”
Sukhvinder Singh, CEO of FC Goa said, “Goa enjoys a unique position when it comes to football since we don’t have to develop football or grassroots but only leverage on the various opportunities that come our way. Grassroots is very important to FC Goa and we have created 16 centres to identify and nurture talent at the grassroots level. Since FC Goa is become such an inspirational brand that we want to work with all stakeholders so that the enthusiasm and good work that is happening at the grassroots is leveraged rather than recreated. FC Goa will continue to aspire and inspire young talent”.
The chosen kids will be invited at the Reliance Foundation Young Champ facility at Navi Mumbai for the final round of selection trials under the watchful eyes of Young Champs coaches Mark Vaessen, Jose Barreto along with Piet.
Presently the Reliance Foundation Young Champs residential scholarship program has 23 talents being trained at the Navi Mumbai facility. The prestigious scholarship offers the youngsters an opportunity to train at the international standard facility at Navi Mumbai with best grassroots coaches regularly, while also furthering their academic ambitions simultaneously.
