RAIA: Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, blanked CAC Cansaulim 4-0 to move into the quarter-finals of UCT Trophy 9-a-side inter-village football tournament organised by United Club Telaulim at the Government Primary School ground, Telaulim, on Thursday.
Fr Agnelo YSC were very eager from the word go and started attacking from both flanks and scored the first goal through Fedrich Fernandes, while CAC Cansaulim’s Domnic Soares was active and gave long pass to Jayson Lucas and took control of the ball and fired from the box but Fr Agnelo YSC goalkeeper Ravil was very active and punched away for a corner kick.
At half time, Fr Agnelo YSC were leading 1-0.
In the second session, both teams tried to take control of the game and Fr Agnelo YSC had the upper hand in the match as they scored three goals, a brace through Denzil Vaz and Krishna Gaonkar also added to the tally to make 4-0.
Earlier, Canacona Sports and Cultural Club down fighting Cuncolim Union 5-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals.
In a fast and attacking football game, both teams displayed good skills and determination but Cuncolim Union missed the first opportunity through Daulat Dessai, whose shot went out of target. Velvino Fernandes scored the first goal for Canacona SCC and Ronaldo Oliveira doubled the lead to remain 2-0 ahead at the end of first half.
As the match progressed in the second half, Cuncolim Union created seven to eight chances through Norain Belki, Daulat Dessai, Tushar Velip but all failed to find the net.
Canacona SCC increased the goal tally through Chaitan Kamorpant and Ronaldo Oliveira netted twice to complete his hat-trick. Cuncolim Union pulled one goal back through Tushar Gaonkar in the injury time.
