PONDA: Gaurav Madkaikar won the Ponda Taluka open chess tournament, organized by Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA), at Lokvishwas Pratishthan, Dhavli, here, recently.
Aston Dias finished as runner-up while Milind Gauns had to be content with the third position.
Shivank Kuncolienkar, Aniket Prabhu, Kaushal Naik, Sohan Nageshkar, Yogesh Paibir, Vignesh Sawant, Yogiraj Sangaonkar, Vishwesh Pai, Sarvam Naik, Vithal Pai, Sachin Gaude and Mohit Khandeparkar secured fourth to 15th places respectively.
The age group winners in U-15 were Sumesh Gaude and Gayatri Bhonsle; U-13 Sneh Parab and Saniya Nadkarni, U-11 Ushank Naik and Urja Dharvatker, U-9 Yash Upadhye and Shruti Jalmi, U-7 Parth Kamat and Srilaxmi Kamat.
Special prizes were also awarded to Aftab Patel and Rahul Kuncolienkar (Lokvishwas Pratishthan students).
The certificates and trophies were distributed by Secretary of Goa Chess Association Kishor Bandekar, President of PTCA Sagar Sakordekar and Amogh.
Secretary of PTCA Amogh Namshiker was the chief arbiter. Around 130 students participated in the tournament.
Anand Kurtiker, Vatan Kuncolienkar, Wilson Cruz, Mahesh Khedekar, Jayashree Madkaikar, Gautami Chodankar and Datta Prabhu took active part in conducting the tournament.
Sandesh Naik compered. Vatan Kuncolienkar proposed the vote of thanks.
