NAVELIM: Over 300 girls participated in the AFC Women’s Football Day celebration organised by Goa Football Association and held at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Thursday.
The programme began with an inaugural ceremony wherein Goa Football Association’s President Elvis Gomes on the occasion said that Women have made great progress in the field of football as well as various other fields and urged the girls to aim higher in order to make a mark and leave and imprint on this world.
“Aim high, the world is behind you, we commit to support the cause of women empowerment,” added Gomes.
FIFA Referee and instructor Maria Rebello who was felicitated for making a mark in the football world also inspired the girls to be future greats.
The girls also played the beautiful game in short format and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The Chief Guests for the event Flora Valadares, Principal of Rosary School complimented the GFA for organising such an event to encourage girls. She told the girls to grab all opportunities that come their way to advance their future. Vice President Shubert Furtado, Secretary Welvin Menezes,organising Secretary Arnaldo D’Costa, committee members Bishut Themudo, Anthony Pango, John D’ Silva, Anthony Fernandes and Jaju Fernandes and Women’s Committee members Victor Gonsalves and Oswaldo Antao, were also present.
