PANJIM: The first Executive Committee meeting of the Goa Football Association (GFA) headed by President Elvis Gomes set it’s eyes on finding a new office premises on rent before Goa gets it’s own football house in due course of time.
“With the addition of four new members, and seeing the dilapidated condition of the existing office, everyone decided to scout for premises on rent to start with. Since the withdrawal came at the last minute, we have written to Calangute Association sending them an invitation to join the GPL. We are expecting an official reply from them by tomorrow (Saturday). Let us be positive,” said Gomes candidly.
The executive committee has decided to allow the Margao office to accept registration papers and GFA would process them and make the cards available in Margao once a week to begin with.
In another major decision, the Executive Committee has decided to start work in earnest on augmenting the GFA stadium at Duler, in Mapusa. “The honourable Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has agreed to assist GFA to develop the ground. By building the South stand, the capacity will increase and plans are to get floodlights installed for people in the North to use the ground in the evening. The executive committee has approved to make a proposal to the government,” stated the new GFA president.
FIFA referee assessor Anthony John D’Costa, Julian Gujrao Colaco and Savio Medeira have been co-opted into the GFA as referee, women’s representative and international player, respectively. The staff working at GFA will have reasons to be happy as the new Executive Committee has decided to have two Saturdays 2nd and 4th Saturday as holidays and the other two to be full working days.
The issue of Procam sports, the GFA sponsors for the last many years was also discussed. After much deliberation, members felt that it would be a wiser option to open the sponsorship playing field to the other bidders on previous occasions.
All the twenty one members attended the first meeting.
