The Second Division League (Bardez Zone) scheduled to start on February 24 has been postponed following Saligao United’s appeal to GFA’s Arbitration Tribunal.
A GFA press release issued by Alvaro F F Pinho, acting secretary, here today has asked the concerned clubs to take note of the same.
This is the second time that the League has been postponed, the first following Saligao Sporting and Co’s appeal to the Executive Committee, which finally felt that it should be a 7-member affair, excluding Saligao United and Laxmi Prasad.
Being aggrieved with the GFA Executive Committee’s decision, Saligao United filed an appeal with the Arbitration Tribunal and hence the second postponement which was announced by GFA today.
Saligao United officials felt that the GFA had undertaken the right decision in keeping the second draw in abeyance, till the full merits of the case are dealt with, especially when the Executive Committee itself was divided on the issue, of course with the majority of members being in favour of seven-member league. “That some members, although in minority, were still in favour of nine-member league so as to give all the teams and more players a chance to play and ultimately display talent and promote football, is significant, more so as Adv Subodh Kantak in his legal opinion also has touched on the same,” voiced a Saligao United official.
The case is likely to come up before the tribunal on February 28.
