MAPUSA: FC Goa came from a goal down to edge past Dempo SC in the GFA’s Boys U-17 First Division league played at Dempo Sports Academy ground Ella, Old Goa, on Tuesday.
Dempo began the game on the front foot as they missed an early header from point blank range inside the first ten minutes.
They took the lead in the 20th minute when their striker Favio latched on to a long ball and rounded the keeper to score, 1-0.
However their lead lasted only for five minutes as FC Goa striker Josley rose highest in the box to expertly head in a cross that came in from the left by Tanish, 1-1.
FC Goa got better as the game progressed and they won the midfield battle and kept better control of the ball.
The breakthrough came in the 79th minute after FC Goa’s centre back Asher played a long ball to Sam out on the right, who controlled it well and burst into the box. His cross was deflected into the goal by a Dempo defender, 2-1.
Dempo tried to equalise late on but FC Goa’s defence stood strong.
