Goa bag 2 gold, 2 silver at Nat Games

Goa began their National Games campaign on a promising note lifting two gold and two silver on the very first day at Ranchi on Sunday. And, there are bright hopes that more medals will come in the next few days.
True to expectations it was taekwondo and swimming that kept Goa’s flag flying high, and more medals are expected in these two disciplines.
P Anand (below 80kg) and Aman Kumar (under 54 kg) were the golden boys in taekwondo while swimming sensation Talasha S Prabhu and D Veera (above 87 kg) got a silver each in swimming and taekwondo respectively.
Goa Taekwondo Association president, Adv Raju D Mangeshkar congratulated the medal winers. “I expect more medals in taekwondo as the team has very bright prospects with highly talented players. Taekwondo has always given Goa the podium position in the past, and I have no doubt that we will carry on with our tradition of winning medals for the State,” remarked Mangeshkar who was proud that Goa had lifted the gold.
“Ecstatic,” was the one word reaction from V M Prabhudesai, SAG’s Executive Director from Ranchi. “It’s an excellent start, winning gold and silver on the first day. Taekwondo has always been in the limelight in Goa and they have kept up their rich tradition. Kudos to the Association headed by Mangeshkar, for they are always in the forefront of medals,” said Prabhudesai.
“Expect more medals from Talasha in swimming, taekwondo, boxing and sepak takraw and even football,” stated Prabhudesai in a telephonic interview from Ranchi tonight. “Our boxing squad is well prepared and we can hope for quite a number of medals in the discipline,” he added and pointed out that the football team also had shown lot of promise.
