Vasco Sports Club launched the ‘Goa River Marathon, Goa Go Green’ campaign on Gandhi Jayanti near Vasco Municipality.
The Goa River Marathon, a first of its kind event, will be held on December 19, stated secretary of the club, Rakesh Unny.
There will two events, both starting from Baina beach pavement. The half marathon will proceed along the picturesque Zuari river, towards Cortalim, turn around at Marman Shipyard and back to Baina beach.
Cash prizes, medals and certificates will be awarded.
The second event, a Fun Run Walk, will also start at Baina beach and will go around the city and end at Baina beach.
The president of Vasco, Nitin Bandekar said that the website of the events is already operational as www.goarivermarathon.com and already 200 participants from Haryana, Ludhiana, Kolkata, Meerut, Mumbai, Pune, Nasik, Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam, Bangalore, Belgaum, Goa and few internationals had already registered.
Bandekar along with a huge crowd later took a Green Pledge to strive for an eco friendly life-style and declared November 12 as no car day.
Bandekar has invited entries for an All-Goa song lyrics competition for the theme song on Goa River Marathon and entries will close on October 20.
The club merchandising sales programme of team jerseys and polo neck T-shirts was also announced.
