Guardian Angel come from behind to hold Churchill Bros

Nickson scores a brace for Red Machines while Alvito and Nicholas were on target for the Sarvordem side

NAVELIM: Guardian Angel Sports Club twice came from behind to hold Churchill Brothers FC to a 2-2 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
Nickson Castanha scored a brace for Churchill Brothers while Alvito Miranda and Nicholas Rodrigues were on target for Guardian Angel SC.
“Without any foreigners all the Goan players played well. We played as a unit and almost sealed the win late in the game. But it’s alright. We have lot of positives to take from this match,” said Guardian Angel SC coach Riston Rodrigues.
The highlight of the day was two brilliant free-kicks from Nickson, one each in the either half of the play. The former Dempo SC full back’s strikes had no answer from the Guardian Angel keeper Ozen Silva and also received accolades from the rival fans.
It was Nickson’s strike which gave Churchill Bros the lead in the 37th minute but Guardian Angel equalised in the 45+1 minute through Alvito, who tapped in Nicholas’ free-kick.
With the scores level in the second half, Churchill Brothers came back strongly and took the lead in the 53rd minute through Nickson, whose scored yet again from a free-kick.
While up by a goal, Churchill Brothers had a chance to inflate the tally when the Red Machines were awarded a penalty but Uttam Rai shot wide from the spot.
Guardian Angel finally levelled terms in the 65th minute when they were
awarded a penalty when the rival keeper brought down Sunny in the box.
Nicholas stepped over and made it all square to steal a point from the red machines.
