CURCHOREM:  Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem defeated Pope John XXIII High School, Quepem 7-6 via tie-breaker to clinch the U-14 Mini Secondary football tournament title, organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at panchayat ground, Tilamol, on Friday.
The session started with both the teams attacking each other goal regularly and in the 10th minute Guardian Angel got an opportunity to open their account through a powerful shot by Shawn Fernandes.
Stunned by the setback, Pope John went all out to neutralise the deficit but they could not get past the rival defenders who stood tall in protecting their slender lead.
Continuing with their defensive game, Guardian Angel in the right earnest managed to double the score through the striker Merrick Pixote and pushed Pope John in a defensive mood where they succeeded to neutralise the score immediately in the 23rd and 25th minutes through their strikers Utkarsh Kudalkar and Prefen Rebello respectively thus the first session score remained 2-2.
Changing ends, Guardian Angel managed to take the lead through Daniel Fernandes but their joy was short-lived when Quepem’s Adriano Gomes deflated the lead and kept the regular time score 3-3.
Guardian Angel Boys proved better shooters in the tie-breaker.
