CALANGUTE: Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem prevailed over Friends XI, Vaddem 6-5 via the penalties after being held to a 2-2 draw at normal time in the inaugural match of 5th All-Goa Reis Magos Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Verem Boys, Verem in collaboration with United Club of Nerul, at Panchayat ground, Ambekhand, Verem, on Saturday.
Vaddem got off to a perfect start, scoring in the very second minute through Alex De Souza, who headed home of a Seby Rodrigues corner.
Stung by an early reverse, Curchorem fought back and restored parity in the 11th minute with Benny Oliveira finding the net off a Benju Clemente assist.
Changing over, Vaddem regained the lead in the 39th minute off the boots of Dinesh Dhargalkar. Curchorem drew level in the 49th minute with Benju Clemente beating the rival keeper.
Curchorem got better of Vaddem by 4-3 in the tie-breaker. Manish Oliveira, Succour Colaco, Melwyn Fernandes and Milroy Diniz found the net for the winners while Seby Rodrigues, Davendra Kauthankar and Denzil Sequeira were on target for Vaddem.
Earlier, the Sarpanch of Reis-Magos Mr. Kedar Naik kicked off the tourney in presence of President Mr. Shailesh Parulekar, Mr. Raju Banavlikar Organising Secretary and other officials.
