MARGAO: Guirdolim Club and St Anthony Sports Club to clash in the Goa Football Association Third Division League Salcete Zone final on December 6, following their respective wins, on Sunday.
Both the games saw thrilling results as Guirdolim Club beat Raia Sporting Club 5-4 and St Anthony SC walked away victorious in the penalty shoot-out against St Rock Youth Club Majorda 9-8, after both the teams were tied 2-2 at the breather.
Guirdolim’s Edgar Noronha was the star player as he scored a splendid hat-trick scoring exceptional goals.
Guridolim scored the first through the counter-attack when Melroy Moura played a long aerial through ball from his own half, which was chased down by Edgar Noronha before clinically finishing to give his side an early lead.
Raia Sporting Club looked sharp in their midfield but their striking pair weren’t at their best in the first quarter. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Guirdolim scored their second when Mario Fernandes’ free-kick was beautifully headed in by Caetano Viegas.
Caitano further inflated the lead to 2-0 and Edgar scored his second in the 58th minute when he connected to Slegan’s cross with a beautiful volley which had no answer from the rival keeper.
But Raia Sporting Club pulled goal back through Joyson Gaunkar in the 61st minute to make it 1-3.
Caitano netted his second from a goal-mouth melee. At the other end, Joyson made it 2-4 for Raia Sporting. Raia pressed hard and soon reduced the margin by netting another goal through Llyod Cardozo.
Meanwhile, Edgar completed his hat-trick in style in the 85th minute when he dribbled past three defenders before rounding off the keeper. Raia netted their fourth through Sheehan Fernandes in the 90+3 minute.
At Ambelim ground, St Rock YC and St Anthony SC started the match on a cautious note and played a balanced game in the first half as neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first half.
However, the second half was a different picture all together.
Both sides played an attacking game and it was Sidney Vaz who struck the first blood for St Anthony SC Assolda at the hour mark.
Ismael Pathan levelled terms for St Rock in the 70th minute. Once on level terms, St Anthony SC took the lead once again through Welson Fernandes who scored in the 73rd minute but their joy was short-lived as Lester Vaz made it all square in the 79th minute.
In the tie-breaker, St Anthony SC scored through Kevin Vaz, Vicky Fernandes, A Olieveira, Julian Fernandes, Sidney Vaz, W Fernandes and R Fernandes, while for St Rock, Ismael Patham, Suraj Naik, Snell Rodrigues, Lester Vaz, Samson Braganza and Carlson Gonsalves converted
