VASCO: Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol stormed into the quarter-finals of the 43rd Bandodkar Memorial football tournament defeating Goa Velha Sports Club, Ilhas 4-0 in the match played, at MPT ground, Baina-Vasco, on Thursday.
At lemon break, Holy Cross Sports Club were leading 1-0.
Holy Cross Sports Club made an attempt at the rival goal in the very 8th minute with the efforts of Hari Parab but to the team’s dismay his shot went over the cross bar. Dietman Fernandes’ try in the 14th minute also flew over the cross bar.
In the 25th minute, this time, Hari did not missed the opportunity which came his way by netting in off a pass by Dietman, taking the score to 1-0.
After the change of ends, in the 43rd minute, Hari Parab tried to score another goal but was unsuccessful.
Goa Velha Sports Club, in the 46th minute, with the efforts of duo Yogendra Thapa and Arun Naik with one-to-one passes came close to the goal area of Holly Cross Sports Club but the defence thwarted their moves.
In the 54th minute, Holy Cross Sports Club’s Stepton Fernandes doubled the lead with a curling shot which crushed into the net of Goa Velha Sports Club, off a pass by Kirtesh Gadekar, making it 2-0.
Immediately in the 56th minute, Kirtesh Gadekar took a straight shot which landed in the back of Goa Velha Sports Club net off a crisp pass by Hemant Rodrigues to increase the score tally to 3-0.
Hari again scored in the 62nd minute off a free kick to complete his brace, 4-0.
Holy Cross Sports Club were a superior side of the evening as their players showed skills and vigour by penetrating the weak defence of Goa Velha Sports Club throughout the game, whereas Goa Velha Sports Club struggled time and again to narrow their lead and could not do much.
Man-of-the-Match was awarded to Arun Naik of Goa Velha Sports Club by Andrew Rodrigues, treasurer of Baina Sports Club.
