PANJIM: Host Curtorim Gymkhana won the 2nd Jose memorial all-Goa inter-village football tournament defeating favourites St. Anthony Sports Club, Assolda 4-3 via the tie-breaker in the finals played at Curtorim ground, Thursday.
Curtorim Gymkhana with home crowd support started the match on a fast pace and dominated the proceedings in both the sessions.
Curtorim missed an open chance in 23rd minute as Mario Mascarenhas shot wide from handshaking distance.
St. Anthony Sports Club also missed a golden opportunity in 39th minute as Curtorim defender Manuel Castanha was booked for foul in the penalty area by referee. But Succoro Fernandes failed to convert the spot kick into goal as it was saved by Curtorim goalkeeper Johnson Bhogot.
At the end of regulation time, the teams were held to a goalless draw.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Neville Fernandes, Stefen Fernandes, Joel Fernandes and Joyston Gunja scored for the winners while Christo Fernandes, Jaison Dias and Cruz Gomes were on target for the losers.
Individual prizes awarded were: Best mid-fielder Marcus Pexiote (Curtorim Gymkhana), Best striker Jaison Dias (St. Anthony Sports Club, Assolda), Best goalkeeper and man-of-the-match Johnson Bhogot.
Earlier, club secretary Joaquim Fernandes welcomed while president Arnaldo Costa gave a vote of thanks. Joint secretary John Rodrigues compered.
