FATORDA: Infant Jesus High School Colva defeated Mount Mary’s High School Chinchinim 2-0 in their Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee Cup match at the Astro turf ground, Fatorda, on Saturday.
The goals were scored in either half with the first one coming through the boots of Raheem Khan who scored in the 12th minute of the game. The second goal was scored in the second half through Riston Gomes in the 43rd minute helping the Colva side secure a comfortable victory over the Chinchinim side.
Raheem Khan of Infant Jesus opened the account giving his side the desired advantage.
The score at half-time was 1-0 with Infant Jesus HS holding a slender edge over their rivals.
In the second half, Mount Mary’s HS did create chances of their own as Vicky Fernandes attempted a free-kick which was goal bound but the Infant Jesus HS goalkeeper managed to save it.
There were plenty of fouls throughout the game and the referee was busy flashing yellow cards as the game was turning into an intense affair.
Sujeet Thakur and Riston Gomes were having a great day leading the attack for Infant Jesus HS.
Infant Jesus HS won a free-kick just outside the box when defender Nezil Pinto brought down Malik Torgal. Riston hit the shot into goal which took a deflection and landed into the net.
That turned out to be a winning goal as Mount Mary’s couldn’t conjure up a comeback as Infant Jesus HS emerged victorius.
