Ivana, Anurag, Ritviz win; Nitish held

PANJIM: Goa’s WIM Ivana Furtado notched up her second straight win by making short work of Mahasweta Kumar (rating 1847) in 23 moves in the World Junior chess championship, held in a starred hotel, in Pune, Wednesday.

Ivana defeated her opponent in closed variation of the Ruy Lopez opening.  
Top seed WGM Goryachkina Aleksandra of Russia was held to a draw while WGM Padmini Rout won her second round encounter.
Menwhile, top seed GM Fedoseev Vladimir of Russia was held to a draw while GM Vidit Gujrathi cruised to a convincing win in the second round. 
Dempo goodwill brand ambassador IM Anurag Mhamal playing black was engaged in the Sicilian Alapin variation and outwitted Abhijith M (rating 2124) of India in 60 moves  while Ritviz Parab got the better of Senthil Maran (rating 2043) of India in a modern defence encounter.
Geno Pharmaceuticals brand ambassador, CM Nitish Belurkar held his higher rated opponent Megailos Konstantinus (rating 2196) of Greece on a tight leash in a Pirc defence opening before agreeing to a draw after 41 moves.
