MAPUSA: Laxmi Prasad Sports Club, Mapusa scored three goals in each half as they hammered Young Boys of Tonca (YBT) 6-0 in a 7th Round GFA First Division League football match at Duler Stadium, here, Wednesday.
Laxmi Prasad registered five wins and two draws to stay unbeaten and remain on top of the table with 17 points while YBT’s poor run continued as they suffered their seventh consecutive defeat.
Laxmi Prasad asserted their supremacy and surged ahead in 10th minute after Lavino Fernandes’ clever through ball was picked up by Domnic Fernandes inside the danger zone, and the latter slotted past YBT goalkeeper Parsappa Harijan with a deft placement.
Then, five minutes later, Laxmi Prasad skipper Steven Fernandes essayed a dangerous cross to Sachin Chopedkar but the rival custodian came up with a timely collection to avert the danger.
Laxmi Prasad did not allow their rivals to settle down as Domnic registered his brace in the 34th minute off an intelligent long ball from central defender Stanley D’Silva.
At the other end, YBT could not break through the strong rival defence. In the 40th minute, Joy Gonsalves set up Naresh Naik, but his powerful strike was blocked by Laxmi Prasad goalkeeper Shilton Fernandes.
Two minutes later, YBT’s morale suffered a blow when Laxmi Prasad scored their third. Sachin’s venomous shot hit the upright and rebounded to unmarked Sangam Pednekar, who easily tapped in from close range.
After resumption, YBT tried hard to get back into the game as Terence Lobo saw his effort parried away by Shilton in the 50th minute.
Subsequently, Shilton displayed good goalkeeping skills to deny attempts shots from Naresh Naik and Paulwin D’Silva as YBT were left frustrated.
In the 60th minute, a defensive lapse by allowed Sachin to score his second.
Then in the 79th minute, Sachin turned provider as he set up Lavino Fernandes, who made it 5-0.
Laxmi Prasad’s Piedade Colaco drove the final nail into the rival coffin in the added time as he beautifully chipped over the out of position Parsappa.
At Poriat ground, Calangute, Cortorim Gymkhana thumped Calangute Association 4-0.
Meanwhile, Sesa Football Academy crushed Bicholim Association Football Club 4-1 in an under-14 GFA football league match at Tivim ground.
