MARGAO: Loyola High School, Margao; St Mary’s High School, Varca; Auxilium High School, Benaulim; Our Lady of Snow’s High School, Raia and St Joseph Educational Institute High School, Chandor cruised into the pre-quarterfinals of under-17 boys inter-school Salcete taluka football tournament organized by DSYA, at Manora ground, Raia, on Friday.
In the first match of the day, Loyola defeated Holy Spirit HS 3-1 with Lennis D’Mello scoring a brace while Oshburn Fernandes netting one. For Holy Spirit Sarineo Fernandes reduced the margin.
St. Mary’s had to wait until tie-breaker to shoot out Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna 6-4 (2-2). Mac Carvalho and Milson Baretto scored a brace each for St. Mary’s and Fr. Agnel respectively.
Auxilium swamped over Sacred Heart of Jesus High School 4-0. Claide Fernandes scored a brace while Samuel Fernandes and Mafron Rodrigues scored a goal each.
OL of Snow defeated Saviour of World High School, Loutolim 4-2 via tie-breaker while hat-trick by Lionel Pereira was enough for St. Joseph’s Educational Institute to crush Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim 4-0. Gary D’Costa was the other scorer.
On Thursday, St Rock HS, Tolleacanto; Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal and Rosary High School, Navelim entered the pre-quarterfinals.
St Rock humbled Shishu Vikas High School, Rawanfond 4-1. St Rock’s dominated the game and trouble the rival fragile defence with well orchestrated raids. The highlight of the day was brilliant brace by Joel Fernandes. Ryan Fernandes and Rallis Pinto were the other scorers for the winners while Alafraz Khan reduced the deficit.
In the second match, Bethany Convent High School shunted out Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda 4-2 via tie-breaker after both the teams were involved in a goalless draw at the end of regulation period.
In the penalty shoot out, Jaison Costa, Shezwin Fernandes, Bharat Naik and Leswin Andrade found the mark for the winners while Alliston Araujao and Clinton Baretto converted for the Fatorda school.
Rosary HS, Navelim overcame Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal 1-0. Peshwar Afraz scored the all-important goal for the winners.
