RAIA: Host team Maina Sports Club secured a commanding 3-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club to advance to the quarter-finals of the Simon Barreto Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by Maina Sports Club, held at the DYSA ground, in Curtorim.

Maina Sports Club took control of the game from the outset, scoring two goals in the first half to head into the break with a 2-0 lead. Joywin Carneiro opened the scoring in the 3rd minute and Savio Peixoto doubled the advantage in the 20th minute.

After the interval, Goa Velha created two promising opportunities through Pratik Kankonkar and Satish Kankonkar, but both chances went unconverted. Maina capitalised on their dominance in the 37th minute when Savio Peixoto struck again, completing his brace and sealing the 3-0 victory.

Despite the loss, Goa Velha goalkeeper Francisco Afonso delivered an impressive performance, making two critical one-on-one saves to prevent Maina Sports Club from further increasing their lead. His outstanding efforts earned him the man-of-the-match award
